About

St Augustine's

St Augustine's Church, Broxbourne is a Church of England Parish church. It is a beautiful Grade 1 listed church, built around 1460 by Sir John Say who died in 1478. It stands opposite the New river and on the edge of the Lea Valley Park with the River Lea 1/4 mile away. St Augustine's is part of the Parish of Broxbourne with Wormley, formed in the late 1970s from the two parishes of Broxbourne and Wormley. It's sister church is the Grade 2* listed St Laurence Church, Church Lane, Wormley.

St Augustine's is a friendly church community with a commitment to the Gospel. The Bible is faithfully taught and there is a welcome for all ages and all stages of faith. We recognize that we have much to do, but we are a growing community and have an enthusiasm and commitment to develop both our Christian ministry and our involvement with the community.

Growing Bible Study groups and teaching ministries are complemented by our commitment to help and support all those who come for marriage, baptisms and bereavement. We are linked with the excellent Church of England Broxbourne Primary School, with many school events in the chuch.

Attached to the church is a useful Parish Centre, which is both used for church events and also hired out to the community.

The Parish of Broxbourne with Wormley is a member of the New River Group Ministry, together with Hoddesdon Parish Church of St Catherine & St Paul and St Cuthbert's church, Rye Park.

You are all very welcome!

St Laurence Church

The church of St Laurence, Wormley is about 3/4 mile up Church Lane from the population centre of Wormley today. Originally Ermine Street ran through this Doomsday Book community, hence the church's location. There is little doubt that a church existed in Saxon times, probably made of wood. At some date in the first half of the 12th century this was replaced with a more solid construction, a part of which survives today together with additions from following centuries. St Laurence Church is a beautiful Grade 2* country church.

It is now part of the Parish of Broxbourne with Wormley following the coming together of the two parishes in the late 1970s, with its sister church being St Augustine's, Broxbourne.

Worship at the church is primarily Common Worship Parish Communion, with some sung liturgy. It has a growing family service held on the first sunday of the month.

Faithful Bible teaching is central to the ministry of the parish, together with the encouragement of faith through Bible study groups and a widening of our ministry through commitment to the united parish.

The church is associated with Wormley Church of England Primary School (VC). The Church Room back down the hill in Wormley currently hosts a pre-school group and is available for hire.

The Parish of Broxbourne with Wormley is a member of the "New River Group Ministry" together with the Parish church of St Catherine & St Paul, hoddesdon and St Cuthbert's Church, Rye Park. We look forward to welcoming you to St Laurence.
